Next year will see another first for the sport as it features in the Commonwealth Games. The games, being held in Birmingham, will be an amazing opportunity for people to see this fast-paced version of the game. And Basketball Wales wants to be part of the action… Competing for those gold medals will be 16 (eight male and eight female) teams. 14 of those teams have already qualified. The final 2 places will be determined at the Home Nations Qualification Tournament being held on 28 December at the Lagoon Centre, Paisley.

Sam Bell is Canterbury Kings head coach and a former assistant coach with England U16 Girls. Will Twigg has an array of experience in both the UK and USA, working with the London Lions, Essex Rebels, Newvic College and Cleveland Cavaliers. Neil Davies led the U13 boys south regional programme last season, while Pentxo Cervantes served as assistant coach to the U17 Girls Ieuan Alex Jones will combine his U17 Boys role with his position as senior women’s team head coach. “It was a very competitive process and I am looking forward to working with this group of coaches, ” said Performance Director Phil Gordos. “Congratulations to the successful candidates.
